Paul Dunn

Welcome and Thanks for taking the time to find out more about me. I was raised in Newfoundland, but I now live in New Minas, Nova Scotia with my wife Gail and our three children Jackson, Abby and Ashton. Gail, is an ordained Baptist Minister who ministers in two churches and loves the work that God has called her to do. I am a carpenter and have always been involved with working my hands for a living. Since I was 15, I have worked in the carpentry trade in one form or another. Most of my working life I have been employed with a company but since moving to Wolfville in 1993, I have been self employed.
..... When I met Gail she was not a believer in Jesus. I told her that I was a Christian and she told me to "buzz off" as she did not want to hear it. I left it alone and we continued to see each other. To many this may seem funny, but I knew when I first met Gail that we would be married. I later told this to a friend and then told God that it was up to Him to change her heart. To make a long story short, I would to sing to Gail.
..... At that time, I was not writing my own music and the mostly sang songs by Dallas Holm. One song I remember singing to Gail was called "Come unto Jesus." It was through the music that I was able to tell Gail the message of Jesus love for her and it eventually won her to Jesus. Later in her walk with Christ she felt a call to ministry so we packed our things and came to Wolfville. Gail attended Acadia Divinity College and graduated in 1997.
..... I can still remember the first time I ever sang a song. I was 12 years old and it was in a church with my two friends. Singing was not something I did regularly and it was something I did for fun. My father was the Pastor of the church and one Sunday night there was a group who was playing music in the church. It was different than what I was used to as they played electric guitars, basses and drums. This was an eye opener for me, I remember feeling the atmosphere that night it gave me goose bumps, and I loved it. The guitar player was a friend of my fathers who I can say, inspired me to begin to play the guitar.
..... When I turned 21, I was still going to church. I knew the stories of Jesus but these stories of why He came and the things He did here on earth stayed in my head and never moved to my heart. I never did read the Bible, I just took the ministers word for it. In the fall of my 21st, birthday I was driving home late one night really upset with a relationship and somehow I remembered God and what He could do. I said something like this to Him, "whatever you have to do in my life do it." It seems like I never had the words out of my mouth and my whole life changed over night. The relationship I was in separated and I took it really hard.
..... For the first time I read my Bible. I read it all the time and I even took it to work. I found by reading it I became stronger as a Christian. I had it in my pocket one day when I was working in Ontario. On that day I went into a sports store and met Gordie Howe. The only piece of paper I had was my Bible and I asked him to sign it for me, to this day, I still have his signature in it.
..... Shortly after that, I began to play guitar in a small group, nothing fancy, just a few praise choruses. We were playing at our house one night and the very same guy who I seen in that small church playing in his group, came to our house. I could not believe it, I wanted to meet him, just to show that I could play also. I guess it was just a guy thing. After being in the house awhile he said lets play guitar, I was so excited. After playing awhile he said to me, "do you sing?" "No," was my reply. He started to play the hymn, Amazing Grace and asked me to sing the first verse as he played. To my surprise, he said I sounded good and I remembered the last time I sang when I was 12 years old in that little church. This was something new for me and since then, I have played and sang in 3 different groups.
.....
Since then, I've played lead guitar in a group in the
Annapolis Valley called "Shoulder to Shoulder", as well as
working on my solo career. I enjoyed the group and recorded a CD
with them. I have always wanted to write my own music and share
what Jesus has done for me and can do for others. This new CD,
"Back to the Well", is
a collection of 10 songs that I have written. I thank God
for all He’s done for me..................Paul Dunn
